Don't give cancer a chance!

On 1 October 1999 the diagnosis was made. Olivia, our little daughter aged two years and six months, had a brain tumour. My husband and I were stunned by despair and desperation.

After an intensive search for a cure at home and abroad, medical science appeared not to be able to provide any hopeful answers. Promising research had started at the K.U.Leuven that could result in a new therapy. But money for the fast development of this research was not available.

Olivia died on 10 April 2000. She was almost three years old. Hard economic reality, the lack of financial resources for research, stood in painfully stark contrast to human reality – the loss of a young and precious human life. This was unacceptable to me and my husband. We therefore decided to launch the Olivia Hendrickx Research Fund .

The Olivia Hendrickx Research Fund promotes and finances innovative scientific research into new therapies for fighting cancer, among children in particular. On this site you can read what such a important new therapy entails, what our objectives are, and how we support the research.

Olivia did not have a future. But it will be different for many other children thanks to new therapies. We have the key to the future in our own hands.

The Olivia Hendrickx Research Fund wants to give everyone more chance of a future, and the weakest and very youngest in particular. A healthy future You can help too.
